What the estimate includes
The calculator adds video bitrate and audio bitrate, multiplies that combined rate by duration, then converts bits to bytes. It is an estimate for constant or average bitrate output. Variable bitrate exports can finish above or below it because scene complexity changes how many bits each second needs.
Bitrate is not resolution
Two 1080p files can have very different sizes. Resolution describes the frame dimensions; bitrate describes how much data the encoder spends over time. Codec efficiency, frame rate, motion, grain, and encoder settings all affect how much bitrate is needed for a useful result.
Allow for container overhead
Real files also contain container indexes, timestamps, subtitles, metadata, and sometimes multiple tracks. For planning storage, leave a small margin instead of treating the estimate as a byte-exact promise.
